Like so many out gay and queer men, I can still vividly remember the sick combination of anxiety, fear, excitement and confusion that I felt when coming out. The only thing that felt even harder than actually coming out was getting the courage do it.
A big factor that can help in coming out is to have a sense of support from others which can provide the necessities to build the courage to come out to the world, especially to friends and family.
In the web series, Fearless (created by fellow queer sis Ellen DeGeneres) host Ashley Graham introduces John, a 20-year-old college student, to Olympic freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy. Gus, who came out on the cover of ESPN magazine, shares his story and offers words of encouragement. John calls his parents and tells them that he’s gay.
